Brush off the Dirt; Make-Up Brush Cleansers

So we all have some hidden beauty secrets that we aren’t so proud of, right? Well one of mine is the lack of sanitizing my makeup brushes. I know I know..ew! Call the police because IT really is as bad as it sounds! For those of us who don’t think it’s that important, think again. Our makeup brushes are a breeding ground for germs, bacteria, dead skin cells, and dirt.

How does this affect our skin? When your bristles are applying the foundation, blush, and eye shadow they are also picking up the oils and bacteria on your face. The more you use the brushes the more you are prone to acne and breakouts. That’s not even the worst of it! You can also spread viruses via a lip gloss brush, or pink eye/other viral infections through eye-shadow/liner brushes. Brushes that come in contact with wet areas like the mouth and eye areas are more prone to infection versus blush and face powder brushes, which are usually in dry areas.

Have I scared you enough that cleaning your brushes will become second nature? GOOD! That was the plan lol. CLEAN YOUR BRUSHES!  Here are some solutions:

A: At home remedy:

  1. Run bristles of the brushes under warm water

  2. Put a drop of Johnson & Johnson Baby Shampoo on the brush

  3. Rub into the bristles until you form a lather

  4. Rinse thoroughly

  5. Lay brushes flat on a dry towel overnight

B: Makeup Cleansers: Sephora, Clinique, Origins, MAC all have great products for makeup brush cleansers

Suggested Usage:

  1. -Spray three-to-four spritzes of cleaner over brush bristles.

  2. -Gently wipe brush onto a lint-free cloth to remove makeup.

  3. -Let brush air dry—no need to rinse.

  4. -For best results, use the Sephora Purifying Brush Shampoo once a week for deep cleansing.
